The Evening
The laboratory doors opened at seven. Guests took their seats at the mad scientist's table to find plasma globes crackling between the place settings, candlelight gleaming on the glassware and a very odd-looking doctor already at work among them. The Reanimation Dinner was staged at The County Hotel, Newcastle, as an evening of electrifying theatre and dark indulgence — part dinner, part experiment, and nobody could quite be certain which part they were in.
Elixirs were poured, glowing flasks changed hands, and the evening's theatre unfolded around — and sometimes upon — the guests.
Where dinner is served and the dead do not stay quiet.
The Experiment
At the heart of the room stood the reanimation apparatus: brass electrodes, a crackle of lightning that leapt between the poles whenever the Bride drew near, and a cabinet of dials and levers best left untouched. The Doctor roamed the tables with his syringe of glowing green serum, and at least one volunteer found himself seated for an impromptu brain procedure. The patient is reportedly doing well.
The Look
Costume was required, and the guests answered in full: Brides of Frankenstein in towering wigs and bandaged sleeves, goggled scientists in stained aprons and lab coats, and laboratory glassware put to uses its makers never intended. Bone-white, bandage and brass were the palette, with an electric green glow for good measure.
